石川県金沢市を拠点に活動する、陶芸作家の芝雪氏の個展を開催いたします。本展では、花器、酒器、器類、茶道具など、約100点の出展を予定しております。この機会に、ぜひお立ち寄りください。

＜作家コメント＞
能登の風土・民俗・文学、古陶の珠洲焼に影響を受け、遠い昔の珠洲の風景、幼少期の情景、能登半島地震・豪雨による自然の変化、これらが自分の中で層となり制作しています。
地震後よく聞いた言葉に「あたわり」という言葉があります。北陸地方を中心に使われる言葉で、宿命、運命、天から与えられたものといった意味です。人生で起こることすべてがあたわりであり、それは天から与えられたもので決して悪い意味だけではないと、能登の人らしさを感じました。私にとって、珠洲の土も、炎も、地震があったこその出会いもあたわりです。
使い手に風土・記憶・素材の物語をそっと語る焼き締めの器や花入。大切な日々の暮らしの中で、気づいたらそこにある控えめな佇まいの作品を、理想のかたちとしています。日常の器や、かつて花月の棟に滞在した作家・川端康成の文学をテーマに制作します。ご高覧いただければ幸いです。（芝雪）

We are pleased to announce a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Setsuyu Shiba, who is based in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. This exhibition will feature approximately 100 works, including flower vases, sake cups, tableware, and tea ceremony utensils. We sincerely hope you will take this opportunity to visit.


Influenced by the climate, folklore, and literature of Noto, as well as the ancient Szu-yaki pottery, I create by layering memories of distant landscapes of Szu in the past, scenes from my childhood, and natural changes caused by earthquakes and heavy rains on the Noto Peninsula. After the earthquake, I often heard the word "atawari," which is used mainly in the Hokuriku region and means fate, destiny, or something given by heaven. Everything that happens in life is atawari, and it is not necessarily of a negative meaning; this is a characteristic of the people of Noto that I felt. For me, the clay of Szu, the fire, and even the encounters that arose because of the earthquake are all atawari.

I create unglazed pottery and flower vessels that quietly tell the story of the local climate, memories, and materials to the user. In the important days of everyday life, my ideal form is that of works with a modest presence, subtly present before one realizes it. I make daily-use tableware and also works themed on the literature of Yasunari Kawabata, who once stayed at the Kagetuki residence. I would be grateful if you could take a look. (Setsuyu Shiba)
